The Art of Losing It

Posted on January 28th, 2009 in Class Happenings, Your Growing Child.

New York Times parenting blogger Lisa Belkin recently asked, “Can Yelling at Your Kids Be Good?” Or, as I would say, “CAN YELLING AT YOUR KIDS BE GOOD?” Because it seems that lately, nary a word escapes my mouth in a normal, patient tone of voice.  Perhaps, like me, you hope the answer to the above question is “yes.”  But naturally, it’s more complex than that. Belkin writes:

“There is a lesson learned by some yelling (not abusing or berating, or belittling, but emoting; not constantly, but sometimes): we get mad, we make up, we still love each other.”

Yelling Emoting aside, discipline takes work. And discipline is about so much more than saying “No.” Feel better about having lost it by reading Belkin’s article — you are certainly not alone. But even better, feel more confident by learning positive discipline techniques with Isis’s Positive Discipline Workshop.  In this two-part workshop, you’ll explore what on earth your toddler might possibly be thinking, and, developmentally, why, as well as ways to encourage cooperation and mutual respect.

Positive Discipline Workshop

Thursday, February 5th and Thursday, February 12th in Arlington from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.
